You wouldn't believe your eyes when you see so many poker terms starting with letter p. But it is true, in fact, here are just some of them, together with their definitions.
paint - in poker, this signifies the face cards, namely, the jack, the queen and the king. If in texas Holdem, the flop gives the jack, queen and king, it is said that it is all paint. Most poker players are excited to see even one paint in their hole cards. Why? This is because the paints are powerful high cards in Texas Hold'em poker.
Pair - a pair in poker is a hand with two cards of the same card. An example of which is two 9's.
passive - a poker player is a passive player if he or she often calls or checks only. He or she seldom raises.
Pat - when the flop is drawn and you have form a hand out of your hole cards and the flop, then that is a pat.
pigeon - this signifies a bad poker player. Other animals that mean a bad player in poker are donkey and fish.
Pocket cards - these are your private cards. In Texas Hold'em, they are the two cards given to you initially. Your pocket cards are also your starting hand, or hole cards.
pocket pair - in Texas Hold'em poker, when you hole cards are already a pair, then they form a pocket pair. The highest pocket pair in poker of course is the pocket aces.
poker face - in poker, it is important to maintain a poker face to hide your tells or facial expressions. A poker face is an emotionless type of face.
post - Texas Hold'em poker requires the players to post blinds, according to positions. They are required to do so to secure that the winner gets something even if everybody else folds. This way, the blinds who have posted will be more forced to play their hands.
protect, protection - this can mean different things in poker. It can signify a type of play in which the player protects his blind by raising the bets even if he has a bad hand. It can also mean the thing that a poker player puts on tope of his hole cards to protect them from flying.
push - this is also known as move in. In poker, this means that a player goes all in, or in other terms, have bet all of his chips.
