Avoid playing too many variants of card games. It will confuse one's mind. One will become a jack of many games but a master of none. This applies to low experience players who constantly shift from no-limit to limit ring games. Or go to and fro among other variants of poker. Players above the beginner's level should focus on a single game to excel.
When there is one game one is very good at that is the when he or she allocates time in learning other games. If one decides to try two or three other games it must be for the reason of finding the special game. Once one has made up one's mind on what, make this the favorite and spend time on mastering it.
Do not mistake making up for bad bets in low limit game by playing in high-staked games to make up for the lost money. In low limit games, opponents make a lot of mistakes or that they are not experienced players yet and will succumb to various errors. Intermediate players can take advantage of these to win.
If one cannot beat players in lower-staked games, there is no chance one will in games with high betting limits. Expert players usually play in games with high stakes. If players make less error then it will be a hard time for one to win.
If the reason for losing is because of the lack of luck, good playing will even it out in the long run. The person beside one is not luckier than anyone else in the room.
Intermediate players have been generalized to play well before the flop. But when the community cards are revealed, they play horribly. Most of the time they fold too much when they think they don't have a strong hand. They tend to forget that poker means a strong hand relative to other players.
Even if one is now an intermediate player remember not to play when generally not in the good mood, when one is sad or depressed. Don't also play when one has ingested alcohol. These two instances will sway one's thinking. One will not be able to decide reasonably. When one has a series of losses and is not in a favorable mood, fighting might rupture. Poker is not only a game of strangers, friendship also blossoms in the game table. Don't end the night having earned enemies.
